Hello Lovelies! It's time to grab your passports and join us as we travel the globe. We've started a new travel and lifestyle blog series called "Alexa K Travels the Globe". This new blog series will include tips on great restaurants, places to shop, and things to do when visiting the best cities around the world. Our next trip is to the one and only "Big Apple" - New York City, New York USA. About New York City: New York City comprises 5 boroughs sitting where the Hudson River meets the Atlantic Ocean. At its core is Manhattan, a densely populated borough that’s among the world’s major commercial, financial and cultural centers. Its iconic sites include skyscrapers such as the Empire State Building and sprawling Central Park. Broadway theater is staged in neon-lit Times Square. NYC is a city with a million things to see and do or experience in each borough. In this post we just focused on the top places we think you should visit in the borough of Manhattan. Points of Interest: The Highline - take a walk, meet friends for lunch, see an alternate view of the city's westside on this elevated park and walking path. Broadway - catch any of the amazing on or off- broadway shows that are performing daily and on weekends. Times Square - shop, eat, take in all the bright lights and see where the ball drops on New Year's Eve. Empire State Building - See NYC in all its glory on the rooftop observation deck. The Met Museum - The Metropolitan Museum of Art is one of the world's largest and finest art museums. View the some of the best galleries and latest art exhibits. Holiday Windows: Retail windows in NYC are always eye catching and unique, but the holiday windows are an extra special treat for tourists and native New Yorkers alike. The art of retail merchandising is taken to a production level quality and magical holiday themes are always represented. All window displays are usually kept a secret and revealed after Thanksgiving. The major retail store windows to check out are: Macy's, Lord & Taylor, Saks Fifth Ave, Bergdorf Goodman, Barneys, and Bloomingdales. Unique Places to Shop: There are so many great places to shop in Manhattan, but if you are looking for unique gift items for the holidays four great places/areas to visit are Chelsea Market, Grand Central Station, Union Square, and Soho. Chelsea Market is an indoor marketplace that has a huge selection of small shops that carry everything from food items, baked goods, beauty products, home goods, fashion apparel and accessories. Grand Central Terminal has a variety of retail chain stores and small boutique shops spread throughout the train terminal. It's a great destination shopping experience as well as a place to find great gifts. Union Square hosts various seasonal markets throughout the year, but the Union Square Holiday Market is a great place to find handmade crafts and unique products. The SoHo shopping area is home to a lot of well known designer stores as well as unique boutique shops. One store we would definitely recommend visiting is Wolf & Badger, who carries our Alexa K collection.
